As cancer treatments continue to evolve, Dr. Siebel views communication as his most important role with patients. He seeks to keep the people he treats fully informed and involves them as they wish in their treatment options. He never rushes as he presents options and helps guide patients toward decisions that make sense for them. Dr. Siebel views treating cancer as a collaboration between patient and physician: he believes in what he does, but he also believes in his patients’ strengths to battle the disease and their ability to reach appropriate decisions if given useful information.

Dr. Siebel earned his Bachelor degree from Harvard University, Cambridge, MA and his Medical Degree at Tulane School of Medicine, NO. He entered a pathology residency and completed an Anatomic Pathology program at the University of Washington, San Francisco, CA. In the middle of this, he served two years as a General Medical Officer in the U.S. Public Health Service, Navajo Ana Indian Health Services, Gallup, NM. As a result of this experience and a growing realization of his pleasure in working with patients, Dr. Siebel clarified his direction and completed his training in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology at Mt. Zion Hospital, San Francisco, CA and Mt. Sinai Hospital, New York, NY. Dr. Siebel is board-certified in Pathology, Internal Medicine and Oncology and has practiced Hematology since 1978. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Siebel sees patients in California Cancer Care’s San Mateo office. He has extensive experience in ongoing Clinical Phase I, II, II, and IV Pharmaceutical Oncology Trial as a sub-investigator; to date, involved in over 75 oncology trials. Since 1988, he has also served as Medical Director of Oncology Services for Seton Medical Center, Daly City, CA.

As Dr. Siebel gets to know his patients, they usually find a lot to discuss in addition to medicine. He has traveled extensively to learn about different cultures. A talented linguist, he speaks French, Russian, Italian, Spanish and smatterings of several other languages. His sports activities include scuba diving and body surfing. To relax, Dr. Siebel loves to read and garden.
