Dr. Ekstrand sees patients at California Cancer Care with a single goal in mind: to provide outstanding patient care. He accomplishes this by combining a scientist’s perspective on the latest in cancer medicine with a healer’s ability to care for the patient , and not just treat the disease.
He earned his Medical Degree as well as a Ph.D. in Cancer Biology from Yale University School of Medicine. He received his B.S. in Chemistry from Stanford University, where he earned Phi Beta Kappa honors. Dr. Ekstrand chose Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York for his Internship and Residency in Internal Medicine. For his Fellowship in Medical Oncology he trained at Stanford University School of Medicine. Today, he serves as an Adjunct Clinical Instructor in the Division of Oncology at Stanford. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.
Dr. Ekstrand has ongoing experience in Phase I, II, III, and IV Clinical Pharmaceutical Trials as a Principal and/or Sub Investigator. He sees patients in California Cancer Care’s San Mateo office.
Born in Boulder, Colorado, Dr. Ekstrand enjoys the outdoors, particularly alpine skiing and long-distance running. Now, with his wife and two young children, he devotes most time away from the office to family activities. He also is an avid sports fan and closely follows Stanford Athletics.
